Knowing from the Inside Out
Jeremiah 31:33 …This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Knowing from the Inside Out
Our consciences were formed differently in the beginning days of our lives. We all have different families of origin, come from different parts of the country, grew up in different cultures. Those truths make us different in interesting and wonderful ways. And yet - still - there are things we just know. There are pieces of who we are that feel as though they were planted in our souls, written on our hearts. In times of decision, it is often true that we can feel some things are right, and some things are not right.
And yet, there are times when we choose not to listen to those internal voices. We choose to go in a direction that we feel wrong about. Something in us is attracted to that other choice, and we try to silence the knowing that comes from the inside out.
It helps me to imagine this scene, when God wrote the truths on our hearts – placing within us the ability to choose love and compassion, integrity and justice. We are called back to our better selves, and invited to accept the grace and forgiveness Jesus shows us are ours to experience.
Reflection Questions:
1) What do you know to be true, from the inside out?
2) When have you felt that you were not paying attention to the things you knew to be true?
3) Can you accept grace and love and forgiveness in those places in your soul?
Prayer:
Dear God, Thank you for planting your ways in our hearts. Help us to live out the love you wrote on our hearts.
In Jesus Name, Amen
