What is Our Food?

John 4:34

Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of God who sent me and to complete God’s work.”

What is Our Food?

There are times in the scriptures when Jesus is hungry, tired, thirsty. But this isn’t one of those times. He has come across the woman at the well, and gotten water to drink – but his focus is on feeding his soul by feeding the souls of others. Jesus sees people who are lost, who are in need of acceptance and love. He sees this woman at the well, and he lets her know that even though she is from a different faith perspective, and hasn’t met the societies values about living life on the right path, he still sees her. He still proclaims the love of God to her.

Jesus wants us all to find paths of peace, where our souls will no longer feel empty. Over and over again in the Gospels, Jesus looked for those who were lost, who were lonely, who weren’t at the top of anyone’s pyramid of success. He found souls that needed to feast on the love of the Spirit of God, and showed them that they belonged.

So, what is our food? Are we feeling hungry today? Do we need to hear good news proclaimed in words, in music? Will we experience the sense of being filled up if we are available to spread the good news to other people? What is our food?

Reflection Questions:

1) How does this story bring you hope today?

2) Where else in the gospels do you remember Jesus connecting with people in need?

3) Really – what feeds your soul?

Prayer:

Dear God, Help me to pay attention to the ways that you feed me, and call me to feed other people.

In Jesus Name, Amen
