Entering the Picture

Psalm 23:1-3

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Entering the Picture

Lying down in a field of green, walking with God beside a beautiful lake, getting filled up for the journey of life. It is a visual passage – this 23rd Psalm. Its words invite us to slow down and experience the beauty of nature as a gift that can revive and restore our very souls. We can enjoy the natural world as a place where we can encounter the love of God.

There is more to the picture than the walk through the gift of nature to and for us. In that opportunity to encounter God’s filling of our souls, we will once again find our vision turned to the pathways of justice and righteousness. We are connected in this world with other people. We are called to be on a path that leads us to live out the truth that the love of God is for all people.

As you go on a walk through the land of the 23rd Psalm this morning (literally or figuratively), what pathways do you see opening up for you to travel?

Reflection Questions:

1) Try closing your eyes and visualizing the scene described in the 23rd Psalm.

2) Where do you need to enter the picture of the 23rd Psalm today?

3) What pathways do you experience God leading you to approach? Is there a pathway of righteousness that feels as though it is getting your attention?

Prayer:

Dear God, I am so thankful for opportunities to be filled up with your love. Help me to see your invitations to walk with you and discover the paths you want me to follow. In Jesus Name, Amen
